RESIDENTIAL

Fitzroy house

A family of 5 approached us seeking a home that was highly energy  efficient, and a little different.

The clients request was to have a house that had thermal comfortable and specifically not air conditioned.

The client had also expressed a deep interest in the Indonesian culture and wanted to bring in the influence of this into our design.
Our final concept included a statement at the front elevation using solid tallowwood posts recycled from old bridges with posing an extended archway to the front entry welcome all into the house.

The long narrow block was ideal for a maximising the passive solar efficiency of the house as the long side faced true north and the front of the house faced east elevation. This allowed us to use materials and technology which ensured a stable inside building temperature year round, without the need of air conditioning.
