The client approached us before selecting a site, with the belief that both owner and architect should identify the site and structure to achieve the built vision of the owner.

We selected a site with a north facing backyard, ensuring that the client had space to perform outdoor exercise, a central requirement for this design and home.

 

The brief included the need to ensure rooms were oversized, to ensure that the clients need for large furniture could be included.

 

Whilst Passive Solar design principles of Thermal Mass, Zoning, Ventilation & Insulation were embodied in every room, the inclusion of active renewable energy systems, such as the evacuated Tube & heatpump hot water system was designed to heat both the domestic water supply, and heat the pool.
